Top Ten Tuesday #74 - Libri nella mia TBR List di Primavera

Rubrica ideata dal blog The Broke and the Bookish

Buonasera miei carissimi Folletti!

Rescued: A Rescued Hearts Novel
di Felice Stevens
LGBT
12.95 0,99 euro [ Amazon ]

Ryder Daniels is all too familiar with rejection. His parents cut off contact because he’s gay and his boyfriend left him, choosing drugs over love. Aside from his rescued pit bull, his only joy is hanging out with his younger brother. Then his mother does the unthinkable and forbids them to see each other, leaving Ryder devastated and alone. His friends urge him to date, but Ryder would rather throw himself into working at the dog rescue and figuring out a way to see his brother again.
When Jason Mallory’s girlfriend gives him an ultimatum to get married, he shocks everyone by breaking up with her instead. He believes he's too busy for a relationship now that the construction company he started with his brother is taking off. When he discovers a group of abandoned pit bulls and calls the local dog rescue group to pick them up, an uncomfortable encounter with Ryder causes Jason to question feelings he’s hidden deep inside for years.
Jason and Ryder build a friendship, until an unexpected kiss sparks the attraction they’ve been fighting. Jason gives Ryder unconditional love and helps him reconnect with his brother while Ryder shows Jason the passion he’s always missed in relationships. Together they must battle through their family differences and ugly prejudices. Only then can they prove that once you find the right person to love, there’s no turning back.
This is a re-release of the original edition published in 2014. It has brand new content as well as the entire book being revised.

The Bank Holiday Murders: The True Story of the First Whitechapel Murders {Jack the Ripper Book 1}
di Tom Wescott
True Crime
11,43 4,75 euro [ Amazon ]

Jack the Ripper stalked the streets of London’s East End from August through November of 1888 in what is dubbed the ‘Autumn of Terror’. However, the grisly ripping of Polly Nichols on August 31st was not the first unsolved murder of the year. The April murder of Emma Smith and the August murder of Martha Tabram both occurred on bank holidays. They baffled the police and press alike and were assumed by the original investigators to have been the first murders in the series. Were they correct? In this provocative work of literary archeology, author Tom Wescott places these early murders in their proper historical context and digs to unearth new evidence and hard facts not seen in over 125 years. The Bank Holiday Murders is the only book of its kind. It eschews the tired approach of unsatisfying ‘final solutions’ in favor of solid research, logical reasoning and new information. The clues followed are not drawn from imagination but from the actual police reports and press accounts of the time. The questions asked by Wescott are ones first suggested by the original investigators but lost to time until now. The answers provided are compelling and sometimes explosive.

Among the revelations are:

• The true history of the 'Eddowes Shawl' or 'Ripper Shawl' discussed in the new book 'Naming Jack the Ripper' by Russell Edwards. * New information linking the murders of Smith & Tabram to the same killer(s).
• Proof that the police did not believe key witnesses in either case.
• Proof that at least one of these witnesses was working with the murderer.
• New evidence connecting many of the victims that may lead to their actual slayers.
• Information on Emily Horsnell, the ACTUAL first Whitechapel murder victim.
• The hidden truth of ‘Leather Apron’ and its role in unraveling the Ripper mystery.
• Proof of a corrupt police sergeant who thwarted the investigation. Was he protecting the Ripper?
• Much more.

The Bank Holiday Murders: The True Story of the First Whitechapel Murders brings us closer than ever to the actual truth behind the Jack the Ripper story and is sure to appeal to fans of Paul Begg, Stewart P. Evans, Philip Sugden, Donald Rumbelow, Ann Rule, Patricia Cornwell (Chasing the Ripper) as well as readers of Victorian true crime, true life mysteries and historical cold cases in general.

Titolo: The Stages of Grace
Autore: Connie Ruben & Kate O'Neill

Pagine: 150 pp.
Costo di copertina: 22.36 euro (hardback) - 12.49 euro (ebook)
Acquistabile su Amazon | Book Depository

This book was written out of a desire to share with others who have loved ones with Alzheimer's disease what I have experience as Grace' caregiver and friend. I wanted to capture the emotions, the expected and the unexpected issues, the painful times as well as the humorous and loving moments that Grace and I have shared as a result of this disease. This is not mean to be a handbook for dealing with Alzheimer's disease, but I hope that by sharing my feelings and experiences, readers may recognize they are not alone on this particular journey.

Review / I start by saying that I knew what feelings, this novel could trigger; so when you have to live a situation like this, when you see someone you love "get lost", you can not remain indifferent. In fact, I have not remained indifferent. I think I cried for most of the reading, thinking of my grandmother.

There's never a right way to describe a disease, however, this book deals with the so blunt, no sugar the pill, opening eyes to some and giving support to others, through what for Grace and Connie is a journey through ups and downs, between joy and pain.

To conclude this brief review, even in two hundred pages, The Stages of Grace is one of those books that help anyone to live in close contact with a person suffering from Alzheimer's: it is not a compendium on how to deal with and manage the disease, but - as I said - a stand that shares those same fears, anxieties, joys and frustrations that those who follow a sick person can understand.

N.B.: I received a free copy of this book from iRead Book Tours in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.

In My Mailbox (61)

Rubrica ideata da Kristi di "The Story Siren"
in uscita ogni domenica.

Buonasera folletti,

   LIBRI ACQUISTATI

Orrore ad Amityville di Jay Anson
Sonzogno Editore - 2.00 euro (usato)

Long Island, vicino New York.

The Mothman Prophecies (voci dall'ombra) di John A. Keel
Sonzogno Editore - 3.00 euro (usato)

TO BE o TO HAVE?

Don’t forget to listen to the cds while you read... It is the best possible way to REMEMBER. Buon ascolto, buona lettura, buon INGLESE... READY! LET’S GO BABY!»

Ok, questi erano i miei acquisti... cosa ne pensate?
